Embraer announced today that the company’s order backlog fell to its lowest level in more than five years.
Embraer delivered 21 commercial aircraft in the first quarter of 2012, but captured 12 new orders which reduced the value of its backlog to $14.7 billion, according to a securities filing. This marks, since 2006, the first time that the backlog would be below $15 billion, which in turn would reduce their order books to having less than three years of revenue on hand.
In related news, Bombardier announced in March of 2012, that it expects plane deliveries to drop this year due to weak demand for its commercial aircraft products such as the CRJ 700, CRJ 900 and CRJ 1000.
J-Air has signed an agreement to purchase an additional Embrear 170 after taking delivery of 10 Embraer 170 regional jets in a previous order. Delivery is planned for the fourth quarter of 2012.
British Airways has converted an option it holds and will order an additional Embraer 190 aircraft. This order will increase the number of Embraer aircraft the airline has on order to 14, comprising six Embraer 170s and eight Embraer 190s. The aircraft will be operated by London City based regional subsidiary BA CityFlyer, and delivery of this aircraft is expected in the third quarter of 2012. The aircraft will be configured in a 98-seat, single-class layout.
